Ragna has medium length, spiky white hair (formerly blonde), stands six foot, one inch and his eyes are different colors (one is green while the other is red). His right arm is a prosthetic replacement for the appendage that was cut off by Terumi Yuuki during Ragna's childhood. His form of dress is a blend of traditional and futuristic. He wears a bright red jacket with two tail hanging down the back along with a black undershirt with a white stripe down the center, two wide black belts, a traditional black hakama, red steel-toed boots, and black gloves. His right glove has a shell attached to the back which houses his copy of the Azure Grimoir.

Personality:
Ragna is sardonic, rude, and abrasive to anyone he comes across. He is also quick to anger, stubborn, and never misses a chance to use as much vulgar language as possible. In this regard, Ragna is similar to the stereotypical anime delinquent. This is caused mainly by Yūki Terumi destroying Ragna's life, which has created a mass of hatred in him; stronger than that of any other individual. Ragna often becomes infuriated at first sight of Yūki Terumi, which he often takes advantage of through taunting him. However, even in cases where he cannot win or is on the brink of death, Ragna possesses an undying will and refuses to give up, something many characters hate or admire.
Beneath his gruff exterior, however, Ragna does possess a softer, more compassionate side. He chooses to keep up his public front because of the path he chose - that of revenge. He does genuinely care for certain people, such as Taokaka, Noel and Jubei. He spared Arakune's life due to Litchi's pleas, and in his Arcade Mode, he directly references his promise to Litchi to let him live after he defeats him. Also, despite Jin's role in the destruction of his life, still cares for him as a brother. He also expressed anguish when Nu sacrificed her life to protect him, despite the past animosity he harbored for her. It is also hinted that he and Rachel have feelings for one another, but both of them would die before admitting it.
Weaponry:
The Blood-Scythe - a large broadsword with a black hilt, silver edge, and red accents, this weapon has the ability to drain the life from it's victims with each strike adding that vitality to the user. It has the ability to transform into a large scythe as befitting it's name allowing for a greater absorption rate. What few people know is that the blade is actually a gunsword, while it cannot fire any projectiles, the vibration from it's firing allows it to immediately shake itself free from an enemy it may be stuck in. This ability can also increase the speed of a swing somewhat.
Abilities:
Due to the vampiric bite from Rachel Alucard, Ragna was given the abilities of a half vampire or "dhamphir". These abilities include great strength, speed, and stamina beyond the limits of normal humans and a powerful regenerative ability shrugging off normally crippling or lethal wounds. However, he cannot regrow lost limbs and certain weapons can inhibit his healing factor (such as Hakumen's Nox Nyctores) Outside of the great strength and speed his half-vampire nature grants him, Ragna is an exceptional swordsman and all around close combat specialist who can fluidly blend in acrobatic martial arts into his devastating combinations. This skill comes from his long training period with Jubei, one of the 6 Heroes and reportedly the strongest being to walk the earth. Needless to say, Ragna in among the highest level of combatants in his day and age.
Ragna is hunted for his possession of the Azure Grimoir, the most powerful Ars Magus in the world which allows him to enter a more powerful form known as Blood Kain where he is surrounded by a veil of dark energy. In this form all of his offensive capabilities are massively augmented however, over time this state will slowly drain away at his stamina until he is no longer able to sustain it. Ragna's Azure Grimoir is not the original (which only Noel possesses) but in fact one of the original copies created by Terumi. Despite this, his version still stands a level above most lesser copies. As the body of the Black Beast, Ragna's compatibility with the massively powerful Ars Armagus is boosted even further granting him phenomenal seithr powers and the ability to summon small pieces of the Black Beast itself in combat such as teeth, claws, and a wing which add additional supernatural force to his physical strikes.
History:
When he was young, Ragna lived in a church with his younger siblings Jin and Saya, and was watched over by the sister of one of the Six Heroes. At some point, Saya became very ill and Ragna decided to look after her, and in turn spending less time with his brother. Jin eventually grew jealous of Saya for being able to spend a lot of time with Ragna, and he began to hate her.
Soon after Saya became sick, the church was burnt down by Jin and Yūki Terumi, who also cut off Ragna's right arm and kidnapped Saya. At some point, Ragna was bitten by a vampire, which supposedly turned his blonde hair white. He was later found by Jubei of the Six Heroes where he proceeded to train Ragna on how to control the power of his newly acquired Azure Grimoire which replaced his lost arm and repeatedly stated that although the item was a part of him now, the power was not his to command yet. For the next few years, Jubei trained Ragna to control the power of the Azure, being periodically watched by Rachel, who requested Jubei to take care of him. During the time, he met Taokaka as a child. When his training was at last complete, Ragna had finally come to the decision to depart on his journey. But before the three would part ways, Jubei took Ragna to the burnt down church and handed Ragna two items once belonging to a hero named 'Bloodedge': his jacket and the sword - Blood-Scythe. Feeling the weight of the man that gave hope to the world and the Six Heroes, Ragna finally takes off, his training now complete.
Ragna has a deep hatred for the Novus Orbis Librarium, and travels from city to city destroying their bases; due to this, he has become a world-known criminal and has a bounty on his head "large enough to buy a small country", according to Jin. Despite this, he seems to travel through cities by night without much fear of being detected or captured by the NOL or any vigilantes.

Sparks flew from the clash of blades against one another, deep gashes marred the polished steel walls, smoke rose from many small fires throughout the halls now littered with bodies clad in blue uniforms. Amidst all the devastation and blood, the Grim Reaper pushed onward. With every step he took, he made another swing of his blade, each motion flowed into the next with a roar of determination and fury. These men were standing between him and his sister, he wouldn't hold back against them. He must have cut down two dozen of them by now as he continued to force his way towards the center of the facility. He could tell the halls were leading downward, deeper into the earth but how far was a mystery to him. At long last he came to the hallway's end. A strong steel door blocked his way along with a quivering low level guard. "Move." the Bloodedge barked once, his voice full of killing intent. Already afraid, the soldier twitched in fright and left his post with a stiffled yelp. Now free to deal with the door, Ragna puled back his sword only for the door to open of its' own accord. Somebody wanted him to enter. Raising an eyebrow, he slowly entered the throne room of the Imperator and there she was almost like she was waiting for him. "Saya..."

Food. Ofcourse it was food, this was Tao they were talking about. Shaking his head, Ragna couldn't help but chuckle a bit at the kakas antics. Glancing at the loaf of bread in his hand he huffed and handed it out to her without further hesitation. It was obvious that she needed it much more than he did. "Didn't think I'd run into you again this soon. I was hoping I could at least make it to Ikaruga with a bit of peace and quiet. So much for that." Suddenly, Ragna glanced behind him at the sound of foot steps. Standing some ways off was none other than Caelica. "God damn it, I can't catch a break today." shaking Tao was hard enough on its' own. How was he supposed to sneak away from the exciteable kaka and Caelica.
